DRI D’ITALIA SPA
DRI D’Italia S.p.A. is a company wholly owned by the National Agency for Investment Attraction and Enterprise Development (INVITALIA), established in January 2022 with the purpose of assessing the feasibility and subsequently developing and operating direct reduced iron (DRI) production plants. DRI is a semi-finished steel product obtained by reducing iron ore using carbon monoxide and hydrogen.
The company has been entrusted, under Law No. 175/2022, with the mission of decarbonizing the Italian steel industry, a commitment reaffirmed by Law No. 56 of April 29, 2024, which refinanced DRI D’Italia’s project with €1 billion from the 2024-2027 Development and Cohesion Fund.
DRI D’Italia is actively working to promote the energy transition and ecological evolution of Italy’s steel industry, contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in general and, in particular, to a significant decrease in carbon footprint through the use of hydrogen in DRI production plants as well as carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies.
